The 2014 Culminating Workshop can be summed up in three words: Learn, Share, Celebrate! This year’s workshop did not disappoint. Another great year of learning in the Washington State Leadership Academy wrapped up on June 26, 2014, when teams from across the state gathered in Spokane at the annual Culminating Workshop.
WSLA teams continue to find great value in the district sharing opportunities offered in breakout sessions at the culminating workshop.
Year after year participants remark on the valuable information and ideas they receive from listening to other teams share their experiences in the Academy.
Enumclaw School District kicked off the workshop with the first presentation at the morning’s general session.Enumclaw Superintendent Mike Nelson and his WSLA district team presented their positive work to the entire group of participants.
Lunchtime Keynote Speaker Speaks to Common Core and College Readiness. Dr. David Conley (College of Education, University of Oregon) spoke about his work with Common Core and the need for students to be “college ready,” how that is defined, and how the Common Core will help get students where they need to be.
Participants also were provided with a copy of his latest book, Getting Ready for College, Careers, and the Common Core.
Celebrating the Work
“It is time for us to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever, the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it.” –Vince Lombardi
